Brrr...

November in Alpharetta, Georgia is not usually as cold as it was last week with highs only reaching the upper 40s and lows in the 20s. Of course, last Wednesday was the day that our furnace decided to quit working. Poor Whit woke up at 3am on Wednesday morning, and when I went into his room, the thermometer read 53 degrees, despite the fact that the thermostat was set to 70. Scott called our heating/AC guy, and luckily, he was able to come out on Thursday, which was when Scott was off from work anyway. Unfortunately, they first sent a furnace salesperson, but apparently, he wasn't equipped with the knowledge to be able to tell whether we needed a new furnace or just needed our current one fixed. So then, they had to send out another guy, and after several long hours of waiting, he finally showed up and told us what we had already surmised: because our furnace was about 20 years old, (as old as our house) we definitely needed a new one. They came out on Saturday and put in a new furnace, thank goodness. Scott's parents only live about 5 minutes away from us, so we were able to stay with them from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday night. They were such gracious hosts, and we had a lovely time with them. Whit just loves Grandma and Grandpa V, so he had a ball! Our upstairs is now as toasty as can be, but our downstairs is still about 10 degrees colder than what our thermostat is set on, so I think the guys are going to have to come back out here. Boo! Hopefully, they will figure it out, and then our whole house will finally feel warm and cozy, just in time for the holidays!
