Before I had Whit, I swore up and down to myself that I would never own a minivan because I had no desire to have the title of "Soccer Mom." I always envisioned myself crusining around town in a cool SUV of some sort. Since Whit was born, I have been driving a Honda Accord sedan, and it just hasn't been large enough for all the "stuff" you need to cart around with you when you have a baby. I also have a mild form of scoliosis, so it was absolutely killing my back to lean over into the backseat every day to get Whit out of his carseat. It was also almost impossible to fit his strollers, toys, and groceries all into the trunk, plus the Pack-N-Play we carry around for when we visit my parents. It was even worse when we took our trips to Lake Oconee and Hilton Head this summer; we felt like we could hardly take anything with us! Scott and I first looked at roomy SUVs, but with the gas prices the way they are these days, it just wasn't practical for us. Then we realized that since we are probably going to have another child in the near future, it made more sense to get a car that seats a lot of people and has a lot of additional storage space. Hence, the 2008 Honda Odyssey purchase. At first, I wasn't sure how I would feel tooling around in it, but I actually LOVE it!!! It seats 8 people, which we don't need right now, of course, but it will be great for when we are carpooling with other parents and such. Plus, now both of Whit's strollers, all of his car toys, his Pack-N-Play, and our huge Costco groceries fit inside perfectly!! There are so many nice safety features to it for kids such as built in sun shades for the windows, automatic locking of the doors after a few seconds (this is great for Scott because he never remembers to lock the car doors!), and you can just push a button to open both sliding doors. I could go on, but I'm pretty sure I would bore everyone to tears! Anyway, if you have a child and plan to have more, I would highly recommend the Odyssey. It is SUCH a good deal, Consumer Reports has ranked it #1 for the past five years, and Clark Howard highly recommends the vehicle as well. Some of my friends who don't have kids and my sister are calling me a huge dork already, but I don't care! I love my van, and I'm not ashamed to admit it! :)
